Title: Bringing God Pleasure Text: Philippians 2:1213 Date: 1-08-06.am Phil 2:12-13 12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. NASB INTRODUCTION: Abraham Maslow was a psychologist who is probably best know for his theory of the hierarchy of needs. His research revealed a relationship between longevity and a person's sense of purpose. All things considered people with a strong sense of mission and purpose are most likely to live longer. As Christians we should have that strong sense of mission and purpose. We are made in God’s image, created to worship God, and to bring Him pleasure. God wants to work in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. He wants for us: 1. Experience His Forgiveness. v. 12 Col 2:13 And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, (NAS) Forgiveness - to put away or send away - Scapegoat Sin - nature Sins - transgressions 2. Sing His Praises. Ps 98:1 O sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. (NAS) 3. Obey His commands. John 14:15 says if we love Him we will obey Him. 4. Practice His Presence. Practice = perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly in order to improve or maintain proficiency in it. Micah 4:5 indicates that we as His people live in His presence, always on holy ground. Everything we do is sacred. Everything we do should be designed for His glory. See Colossians 3:23. CONCLUSION: Deuteronomy 6:5 says, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." When you love God like that you will want to serve Him with gladness and in doing so your life will bring Him good pleasure. |
